Friends of ours are having their second baby this fall. And they're also in the process of buying a brownstone - a new home for their growing family and their dreams of finally putting down roots in a special place.
Like most houses, this one will need a little tender love and care. We're thinking something inspired by Jenna Lyons' beautiful home...
A nod to tradition, without taking it too seriously,

a few playful details thrown in for good measure,

a simple farm table paired with Bertoia chairs, maybe,

all the while remaining classic and clean-lined for sure...

I think it'll look great once we're done. We probably won't start work until the spring, but it's fun to start thinking about it...no?

No better woman to design their house; you'll bring the elusive serenity that they'll dearly appreciate with the (joyous) mayhem of a second child. Your inspirational photos are beautiful, and the yellow sofa is a masterstroke.

ReplyDeleteSo lovely, have fun decorating your friends home.
ReplyDeletehello hello! These friends of yours are really quite lucky - a growing family, a brownstone, and you as a designer!! What star were they standing under? I want its coordinates ASAP. Hope you are having a wonderful summer!
ReplyDeleteOhhh Maria, the dreaming/inspiration phase is one of my favorite aspects of the whole design process. Your ideas are always inspiring and I love your take on a more whimsical traditional style. Sounds fabulous and I can't wait to hear more about it.
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear from you! I've been out and about a lot lately. I need to run errands soon but had to stop by and say hello. I know school starts soon for your little one, so I hope that transition goes smoothly. My mom tells me I did great starting school, but my poor brother and sister were in tears. I remember a photo of my little brother, a small hand near his eyes, wiping a tear from his cheek while standing on the top step of the school bus. Apparently he thought the bus wasn't going to drop him off after school. :)
Hope you are staying cool in the August heat. Been lingering around 100 here for the past couple of weeks now. Definitely keeps me indoors more.
Well my time is up. Hope you have a lovely week and look forward to your next visit/update!
xoxo,
Bonnie
Such beautiful simple designs. What fun you all will have.
ReplyDeleteWarm wishes, Tonya
Maria, good to be back here! You posted some of my favorite images.
ReplyDeleteI will be looking forward to some (more) drooling in the spring!
Love always, Mon
What an exciting project - and isn't half the fun in the planning? I adore the style of Jenna's house - the perfect mix of old, new, and quirky... I hope you're having a fab week and that the sun is shining for you :) Annie
ReplyDeleteSo exciting Maria! Can't wait to see what it looks like--I love your inspiration, Jenna Lyons house is amazing!
ReplyDeletexo Mary Jo
How exciting for both of you!!! Jenna Lyon's home leaves me breathless even after sifting through pictures of it close to a thousand times. All those fireplaces!!! I can't wait to see what you do to your project.

This home is great! I love all the color detailing and the attention to classic style with a bit of a twist. The windows are open to let in a lot of sunlight, but I wonder for a family if more privacy is needed. I came across your post this afternoon while browsing interior design blogs and the topic of window treatment selection was very interesting to me. It is true that you must dress your windows appropriately to bring out their true beauty. Thank you for writing and as a special thanks to you and your readers, I would like to offer a 20% off coupon using this code upon checkout: BLG20.
ReplyDeleteWow, those pictures are inspiring!
ReplyDeleteCool! These are perfect ideas for our new home's flooring. Torrance beach houses are the inspiration for our house for its warm yet relaxing feel. My wife and I are still trying to decide if we're gonna laminate floors. Los Angeles definitely has the best beach houses in the world. I believe a lot of people would agree with me on that. Thanks for posting these designs, by the way.
ReplyDeleteThose bottom two images are divine. I am loving blue cupboards today! Loving your blog, too.

How exciting that you have the project in Brooklyn to help out your friend! I love all the photos you've picked out for them. I love the simple lines with chic colors and playful details added in the simplicity. Beautiful! Thank you also for sweet words on my blog. It meant a lot that you came over to visit and left comments which made me smile! :)
